Packing Tips for Backcountry Ski & Snowboard Adventures

2014-08-13

Here are some gear items that we recommend having on our guided ski adventures throughout Argentina, Chile, and the Western U.S./Canadian trips. Remember that you can cut back on the amount of clothing and personal items that you bring but essentials such as an avalanche beacon, shovel, probes, and a small pack are a must!

OPTIONAL BACKCOUNTRY SKI GEAR (SOME OVERLAP RESORT SKIING)

  • Avalanche Beacon (with extra batteries)-bring if you have them, otherwise we will outfit you
  • Shovel & probes (bring if you have them, otherwise we will outfit you)
  • Adjustable ski poles (2 stages work more effectively)
  • Sunglasses, goggles (2 of both)
  • Hydration system (bladder or water bottles)
  • Headlamp (extra batteries)
  • Randonnee skis, split snowboard, or telemark skis
  • Skins for ski touring (skin wax)
  • Crampons and Ice ax (for more advanced ski mountaineering trips)
  • 2 pairs of glovesĀ (either two winter gloves or 1 winter/1 spring for spring skiing)
  • Ski straps for securing skis to pack
