Snow Returns to the Andes!!!

2012-08-01

After a few weeks of little snowfall in the Andes, there is a good chance of snow throughout the week. Cerro Castor down at the southern tip of Argentina is currently having one of their best seasons in 10 years or more.  Temperatures have remained cold there since about the first week of May and snowfall has been steady and deep!  If you have been wondering what its like to ski at the End of the World, then now’s the time to do so.  We run trips there through mid-October!

The northern Andes have not had any substantial snowfall recently, except for Las Lenas in Argentina.  Last week it snowed 1-2+ feet at the resort and off-piste conditions have been very good.  If you follow the sun properly, then you can ski beautiful powder in the morning on the Southerly aspects (remember this is the southern hemisphere, so aspect is the opposite for powder) and beautiful corn late morning though mid-afternoon.  Since the sun is still low in the sky, the corn lasts most of the day….
