RESORTS IN THE AREA

Ski Season

The season in Cerro Castor is from mid-June through mid-October.  Cerro Castor boasts the longest season in all the Andes, since storms roll in from the Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf of Antarctica. The skiing at Cerro Castor is very unique, considering the base elevation is only 640 feet. The weather can be pretty wild, but with storms coming in from all directions, you are bound to have a powder day or two during your visit to this exciting family-run resort. From the top of this resort, one can look towards the Bay of Ushuaia and Beagle Canal in the south or north towards the Chilean border.

The Mountain

The Cerro Castor Ski Resort is the southern most ski area in the world, located on the Island of Tierra del Fuego.  Because of its orientation to the south, Castor Mountain has the best snow quality, protected from the heating of the sun and conserved in an excellent state. Being in the 54 parallel, the temperatures are lower and constant, which gives the best kind of snow precipitations similar that can be found in Moscow, Russia.  The upper mountain consists of large bowls, steep chutes, long cruisers, and some bump runs mixed in for good measure.  From mid mountain down there is some fun tree skiing and high speed groomers.

Accommodations & Cuisine

There are numerous lodging options in Ushuaia to meet all travel needs and budgets, ranging from boutique inns to suites looking over the Beagle Canal.  Ushuaia has very good nightlife, which lingers into the wee morning hours. The City of Ushuaia has two casinos and excellent restaurants. Centolla (king crab) and Cordero (lamb) are two excellent dishes, which are available in many of the top restaurants in Ushuaia.
